North – South Gas Pipeline Project (NSGP)

The ECC in its meeting held on 10th January 2015 has approved the North-South Gas Pipeline Project (Project) under Government-to-Government arrangement. Accordingly, the Government of Pakistan and the Russian Federation entered into Government to Government Agreement on the Cooperation for the Development of North-South Gas Pipeline Project on 16th October 2015 at Islamabad. The Project will be capable of transporting 1.2 BCFD of gas from Karachi to Lahore by laying 42” dia 1100Km pipeline system. 

As per the G to G agreement, Pakistan side has nominated Inter State Gas System (Pvt) Ltd. and its affiliates while Russian side has nominated RT-Global Resource and its affiliates for execution of the Project.

The implementation of the Project involves construction of the pipeline in three (3) segments namely: Karachi-Nawabshah (250KM), Nawabshah-Pakpattan (600KM) and Pakpattan-Kasur (250KM). In Phase-I of the project implementation, the construction of the two segments from Nawabshah to Lahore will be initiated, followed by construction of the third segment from Karachi-Nawabshah. The Russian side will propose transportation tariff for the three segments for Pakistan side’s consideration. Russian side will be responsible for the entire financing, construction and operation of the project against GoP sovereign guarantee, while Pakistan side will be responsible for the provision of security and Land.

In Phase-II of the Project, with additional compression provision, the gas carrying capacity will be enhanced upto 1,500 MMcfd to transport additional RLNG or Iranian gas volumes. The target completion of Phase-II is December 2018.
